TAWIRI - TANZANIA WILDLIFE RESEARCH INSTITUTE - THE CITES SCIENTIFIC AUTHORITY IN ARUSHA, TANZANIA
LOCATION The Gombe Wildlife Research Centre is located in Kigoma Region, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, within the Gombe National Park. The Gombe National Park is situated 16 km, north of Kigoma town in western Tanzania and covers an area of 52 km2 (4o 40'S, 29o00'E ). RESEARCH The Gombe Wildlife Research Centre is responsible for wildlife research carried out in Gombe National Park. CURRENT RESEARCH Long-term research carried by Dr. J. Goodall at the Jane Goodall Institute on Chimpanzees and other primates. FUTURE PLANS TAWIRI collaborates with the Jane Goodall Institute to station some of TAWIRI's staff to undertake research on flora and non-primate animals.

there are no TAWIRI's staff at the centre but all Wildlife Research
activities are co-ordinated by the Director of Mahale Wildlife Research
Centre which is like Gombe Wildlife Research Centre in Kigoma Region.
